Question from a friend of WordTruth Press:>>>Where does it say Jesus first came as a lamb and now he may come as a lion?>>> WordTruth Press Response:Jesus the Messiah (or Christ) is referred to by many names in the Bible. I believe the reference you are looking for is when John the Baptist saw Jesus, recognized Him as the Messiah, and exclaimed:
Jesus is God who became a man (John 1:1,14) in His first coming to Earth. Instead of coming with loud fanfare and royal furnishings (as He certainly deserves as the King of kings), Jesus came as a human baby. His first coming was marked with great humility. So in one sense He came as a lamb because He was meek and lowly. But the sense in which John made this exclamation is more significant. He was "the Lamb of God" who would take away our sins through His death on the cross. This is a reference to the sacrificial system in the Law of Moses, given to the Israelites long ago. A lamb without blemish was offered as a sacrifice to cover the sins of the one who offered it to God (Leviticus 4:32, 5:5 and others). The sacrificial system pointed to a time when God would one day deal with the sin problem once and for all time (Hebrews 10:1-23). Jesus was the once for all sacrifice for sin - in effect, THE Lamb of God who takes away our sin. After His death on the cross and resurrection on the 3rd day, Jesus appeared to many people for 40 days. After that, He ascended to the right hand of the Father. One day, Jesus will come again to the Earth. In His second coming, He will not come in humility but in glory. Here is how it will happen: 11 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. "He will rule them with an iron scepter." He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. (Revelation 19:11-16, NIV) When Jesus comes to the Earth the 2nd time, it will be as the ruling King of the Earth. He will vanquish His enemies and establish His kingdom on Earth and Heaven. The reference to Jesus as a Lion is a reference to Him as King. He is called "the Lion of the tribe of Judah" (Revelation 5:5). The lion was the animal known as the king of the jungle. So in referring to Jesus as the Lion of the tribe of Judah, He is being called a King who would be born of the family line of Judah. I hope this answers your question in a way that you can understand and apply. The most important thing is whether you have a personal relationship with the LORD Jesus - for when He comes again, He will be King of all. Are you ready? If not, you can be ready by prayerfully receiving the good news that Jesus brought us in His first coming. Click here to read the Good News of Jesus Christ.
