Question from a friend of WordTruth Press:
>> Who wrote the book of Isaiah?
WordTruth Press Response:
Greetings!
There is a simple answer and a more detailed answer to your question.
The simple answer is that Isaiah wrote the book of Isaiah under the inspiration
of the Holy Spirit.
The
vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem
in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah. (Isaiah
1:1, NKJV)
Internal evidence from the Bible corroborates this declaration from the
book of Isaiah.
We find the same credit given to Isaiah as the author in the New Testament
(John 12:37-38 ref. Isaiah 53:1; John 12:39-40 ref. Isaiah 6:10; Romans
9:27, 10:16-21 ref. Isaiah chapters 10, 53, 65; other references include
Matthew 3:3 ref. Isaiah 40:3; Matthew 12:17-21 ref. Isaiah 42:1-4; Luke
3:4-6; Acts 8:28). Our LORD Jesus Christ Himself read in the synagogue
the scroll of Isaiah (Luke 4:17-20) from Isaiah 61:1-2. When He was
finished reading it, Jesus called the word of the prophet Isaiah "Scripture."
And
He began to say to them, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing"
(Luke 4:21, NKJV).
That really settles the issue. You can also find external evidence
in Jewish tradition, the Septuagint (Greek translation of the Hebrew Old
Testament, circa 2nd century BC), and the Dead Sea Scrolls where we find
a complete and extremely old manuscript of the book of Isaiah. No one really
disputed Isaiah's authorship until modern liberal "scholars" began to dispute
the inerrancy and authority of the Bible. Isaiah was just one book of many
they objected to because it clearly reveals prophetic insights into future
events, including the coming Messiah (Christ). If Isaiah wrote the
book circa 740-650 BC, and the evidence is clear that he did, then the
book cannot be simply the work of man -- it is the word of God. Frankly,
that is the fact that liberal "scholars" are trying to undo and why they
create such wild speculations.
Hope this answers your questions. Feel free to ask more questions!
May God bless you with His wisdom and the courage to follow Jesus!
